A concussion is an injury to the brain caused by a blow to the head or rapid acceleration that causes your brain to strike the inside of your skull, such as in a car accident. Physiotherapy is an important part of concussion rehabilitation and can help relieve your symptoms. Increased awareness of the risks of untreated or repeat concussions, for both adults and children, underscores the importance of physiotherapy in treating post-concussion syndrome, where symptoms persist beyond a couple of weeks. An APR physiotherapist with special training and experience working with post-concussion clients can complete an assessment and create a treatment plan tailored to you. Treatments can be offered in your home or in our clinic, which includes private treatment rooms to help minimize the impact of noise sensitivity or busy environments, which you may find disturbing. Treatment may include education on pacing activities, a return to physical activity with symptom monitoring, work on improving your strength and endurance after the initial rest phase, visual/vestibular rehabilitation to decrease dizziness and improve balance, and appropriate hands-on therapy or exercises for relieving headaches, which are a common problem post-concussion.
